My Week

at hi-impact

I first heard about hi-impact when they visited my school for ‘World of Work’. I liked how hi-impact introduced their company, how they talked me through the different departments and what hi-impact has to offer. I immediately knew that this was something I was interested in.

When I first arrived, I was greeted by the incredibly friendly receptionist who made me feel very welcomed. Then I met with Dionne Thomas (Head of Sales and Marketing) who showed me around the office and gave me a basic induction. It was fascinating to learn about everyone’s different roles and how they contribute to the company.

On Monday, I had a chance to develop my researching skills as I looked into companies that are competing with hi-impact. I looked into their strengths, weaknesses and their targeted audiences as well as their company’s goals. We used this information to focus on what hi-impact could do to become even better. This activity gave me an insight into what type of tasks I’d be required to do in fields such as marketing.

I spent the day filming and editing on Tuesday and was introduced to Adobe InDesign and Premiere Pro. I interviewed staff on their roles in the company and what they enjoyed the most about their job. After filming this, I learn how to edit the video and how to add in music and graphics.

On Wednesday I explored the design platform, Canva, and learnt graphic design. I did some research on Fort Belan so I could design a poster to advertise it as a weekend-holiday destination. After I completed the poster, we discussed the artistic decisions I made and talked about possible adjustments I could make to improve it. I also designed a work experience poster to advertise for hi-impact to use to advertise their company.

Today, I am learning the best practices in blog writing. I have learnt about the basics of SEO and how to write a compelling headline. I now understand the role of a Marketing Executive within hi-impact and the fundamentals of blog writing, developing my own style of writing and tips on how to create a good blog post.

Overall, my week at hi-impact exceeded my expectations and has given me confidence that pursuing a career in media is something that I will enjoy. Work experience at hi-impact was an enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend them to anyone who has an interest in media, education or IT. Throughout this work experience, I met a range of talented people and I would like to thank everyone at hi-impact for making me feel so welcome.
